What browser features are required to use the Build Your Tux application? back to top

The Build Your Tux application uses JavaScript, session cookies, third-party images, and popup windows. All these features should be enabled by default on your web browser.

The Build Your Tux application has been tested on Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari.

I have a popup blocker installed on my browser. Will this cause problems? back to top

All the popups used by this application are triggered by your actions, such as making a choice from a drop-down list, so most popup blockers should allow these popups to display. If popups do not appear for you at all (for example, when choosing a tuxedo by designer), set your popup blocker to allow popups from www.alsformalwear.com or disable your popup blocker temporarily.

How do I build a tuxedo outfit using this application? back to top

When you begin using the Build Your Tux application, you are presented with a set of drop-downs in the right-side blue box to choose a tuxedo using various criteria. Begin your selection process by choosing an option from one of the drop-downs. When you make a choice from a drop-down, one of two things will happen:

  • If there are still too many options to make an easy choice, your chosen option will be displayed with a new set of drop-downs to help you narrow your options further.
  • If your selection narrows down your options enough to make a choice, a popup window will appear with your options.

The popup window shows one of your options in a zoom viewer on the left side, with your other options displayed in smaller images on the right. If you click one of the options on the right, that option will be displayed in the zoom viewer for your closer inspection. You can zoom in on the image and move it around (click and drag) to get a better look at any of these items before making your final choice.

When you have your preferred item in the zoom viewer, click the "Keep this choice" button to continue. The popup window will close and your chosen tuxedo will be displayed in the middle of the Build Your Tux page, along with a description on the right. Drop-downs will display for shirts, and the process begins again. Choose from drop-downs until a popup presents you with choices, choose from those options, keep the choice, and proceed down the list to choose vest or cummerbund, tie, jewelry, and shoes.

How do I change a tuxedo outfit I have built? back to top

You can click the header for each part of the outfit to begin the selection process for that part again. For example, if you want to change the vest or cummerbund on an outfit, you can click the "Formal Vest or Cummerbund" header and choose a new vest or cummerbund from scratch.

To start an entirely new outfit, click the "New: Start a new outfit" link on the bottom of the right column on the page.

Why can I not choose a tie to go with my shirt? back to top

You have proably chosen a band collar shirt. Shirts with band collars can only be worn with button covers. Other ties would not stay in place on a band collar shirt.

I closed the popup window without making a choice. What do I do now? back to top

If you closed the popup window without making a choice, you should still have drop-downs displayed in the main window. Make another choice from the drop-downs (or choose something else and go back to your original choice), and the popup should be displayed again. For jewelry or shoes, you can use the "Click here to choose" link to re-display the popup window.

"We're sorry. There was an error with that image, please make another choice." Now what? back to top

There are literally billions of possible combinations of tuxedo, shirt, vest/cummerbund, tie, jewelry, and shoes available through this application. It's possible that one of those combinations has an error in it that we are not aware of. Please let us know about this problem: Go to the Contact Us page and submit a "Web Site Question/Error Report" to let us know about the error you found. Let us know the style numbers of the items that cause this error image, so we can fix the problem for you and for other customers.
